About Get Smart Rhode Island
We are a non-profit organization formed in early 2016 to support a public challenge to improve K-12 student performance in Rhode Island to levels equivalent to or better than those in Massachusetts.
Comprised of concerned citizens, business leaders, educators, elected officials, clergy, and parents, our organization was not created to compete with the several education reform groups already hard at work in Rhode Island. Alongside those groups, we aim to help create a powerful coalition for change in our schools.
Our role in this coalition will be to help inform all Rhode Islanders about the state of our schools, the variety of ways in which they can be improved and, most importantly, how citizens can participate in their improvement.
This website, which is in development now, will be an aggregator of data, policies, and ideas related to improving school and student performance. Through this site, GetSmart Rhode Island will be an objective broker of credible information on school reform.
We are non-political and will not lobby at the General Assembly and we are agnostic on the specific reform recommendations that have been and will be brought forth. We seek only to ensure that all citizens can participate in the ongoing debate about education reform.
